Piñata Chair

May 2023. Party streamers on wooden chair.

For the final of my "Foundations of 3D Art "class, we were tasked to choose a chair and transform it. I picked an old antique chair and decided to piñata-fy it. The process of deconstructing the chair took way longer than I thought and it was painful and excruciating. However, it was worth all the effort as it was able to easily take on its new form. And it wouldn’t be a piñata if I didn’t hit it, so I stuffed mini chairs in it and hung it from a tree.

For me, this piece is a way of bringing my heritage to St. Olaf and using my privilege to legitimize piñata making as an art form. It is also a celebration of completing another year of college and the struggles I’ve had.
